"I've been used to having pressure for a long time. In this sense, I'm calm," he said in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca on Saturday. "This price tag isn't something I'm going to think about when I go out on to the pitch, so it's not going to affect me.

"I think that it's a fair figure. If Manchester United and Real Madrid agree this amount then there is nothing more to say. I will show that the money they are paying has been a good decision.

Kaka finally tranffered to Real Madrid

It’s only been a couple days since new Real Madrid president Florentino Perez took office and already he’s causing quite a stir amongst some of the biggest clubs in European Football. Earlier today news broke of a confirmed deal between AC Milan and Real Madrid that will send Kaka to the Bernabeu for a shocking £56.2m fee. The move, which is supposed to be confirmed on Monday, would mark the biggest transfer fee in footballing history since Zinedine Zidane made the switch from Juventus to Real Madrid for £46m.

So Real Madrid got their man. Fine. No one should be surpsied with Perez’s first signing given the way he splashed the transfer funds during the Galacticos era at the club. However, what is surprising is the way in which he went about finalising the move, almost bullying Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani into making the deal by throwing as much cash at them as possible until he had to bite.

Like a boxer prior to a big fight, Real Madrid talked the big talk on a consistent basis with Perez throwing out names he was planning on taking off market with the intent of throwing the football world into pandemonium. And just when you thought Madrid’s talk was nothing but hot air, they went out and landed the first blow, shocking the rest of the footballing world from the start and putting many teams on high alert.

It’s not very often that you get a concession from one of the world’s richest men whilst battling it out for a top football talent, but that’s what Florentino Perez received when he won the Kaka sweepstakes. For once in his life, Roman Abramovich appears to be powerless to the Real Madrid train chugging down the tracks. Instead of crying over spilt milk, Chelsea have decided to turn their eyes towards other names like Villa and Ribery. But aren’t Madrid already tracking both of those players?

Indeed, it appears that Madrid will be everywhere this summer, chasing Ronaldo with money in their hands whilst whispering sweet nothings into the ear of David Villa. In years past this was Chelsea territory, as the London club swept through the transfer market always calling after big names like Kaka but never landing them.

In the end that’s what makes the Kaka transfer so thrilling as Perez made a claim and delivered on it. He did it before with the old Galacticos when he brought in Figo, Beckham, Ronaldo, and Zidane — but this transfer market is a different beast.

Italy coach Lippi backs Man Utd over Cristiano Ronaldo

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has backed Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson’s determination to block Cristiano Ronaldo’s desired move to Real Madrid.

“The 100 million (euros offered) by Real is astonishing. But not everything can be bought,” Lippi said in an interview in Saturday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I think it’s right that a player is not authorised to have the last word always.

“Ferguson is stubborn. I think Ronaldo will stay at Manchester. It’s the right decision from a technical point of view.

“However, Portugal’s result at the European championships shows that not even Ronaldo can win a big tournament on his own.”

Lippi reiterated his admiration for Ronaldo’s Manchester United team mate, England striker Wayne Rooney.

“I’m in love with Rooney,” he said. “It’s beautiful to see him run after his defender until the (corner) flag. He’s the prototype of the modern champion.”

The 2006 World Cup winner added that he thought it was a shame Frank Lampard was not moving from Chelsea to Inter Milan.

He ranked the England international as one of the world’s top four midfielders, along with AS Roma’s Daniele de Rossi, AC Milan’s Andrea Pirlo and Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta.

Cristiano Ronaldo saga destabilising Real, says van Nistelrooy

Real Madrid's Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy believes that the constant speculation over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo has had an unsettling effect on the team.

Whether Ronaldo will follow Van Nistelrooy's path from Manchester United to the Bernabeu has been an ongoing debate this summer.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to hold on to the Portuguese star, while Real coach Bernd Schuster admitted Saturday that the club have not given up hope of luring Ronaldo.

"It got a bit too far maybe, it is such an issue at the moment in Spain. It gets a bit over the top," Van Nistelrooy told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme.

"A couple of our players, they made the comment that there was only talk about him and not about the current team and stars, and everybody's waiting for the next rumour without anything concrete."

Asked whether he expected Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford for the forthcoming campaign, the Dutchman added: "I think so, if you hear the statements from United. It doesn't really sound like they'll let him go."

Salgado: Real's Ronaldo quest to gain impetus

Real Madrid's quest to sign Manchester United star striker Cristiano Ronaldo could gain impetus because of Wesley Sneijder's injury, Madrid defender Michel Salgado said.

Sneijder suffered serious knee ligament damage in Real's Emirates Cup friendly defeat to Arsenal which could sideline him for up to six months, meaning the Bernabeu outfit will miss his creativity in midfield.

Madrid have been continually linked with the Portugal winger since the end of last season, despite the European Champions' insistence that he is not for sale and their complaint to FIFA over Real's pursuit of the player.

The Holland international left the field on a stretcher after an hour following a heavy challenge by Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby as Madrid went down 1-0, a result which handed the trophy to Hamburg, who beat Juventus 3-0 earlier in the day.

Salgado insists he does not know anything about the progress of the transfer but believes the club could now attempt to force the issue with United.

"We (the players) don't know anything about it," he said. "It's a problem for the club - for (sporting director) Pedja Mijatovic and the coach. "We are players, we only think about football.

"But now Wesley Sneijder is injured and he's an important player for us. Maybe tomorrow there will be a meeting with the people in the club and maybe then there's going to be news about this."

Salgado also claims the players and the fans would welcome Ronaldo to the Bernabeu with open arms.

"We know Cristiano Ronaldo is an incredible player and we don't have any problem with him joining us," he added.

"Real Madrid making an offer is normal. Manchester United and (coach Sir Alex) Ferguson don't want this because he is a very important player at United and that is normal too.

"I think they're going to have to talk about this and if Cristiano Ronaldo is coming to Real Madrid the dressing room is waiting for him.

"If he came of course the players and the fans would be excited. The supporters are used to watching the best players in the world at the Bernabeu and Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world."

While Salgado admits the Portugal international would be a great addition to the team, he also claims the Primera Liga champions would cope well without his services.

"We have a very important group now," he added. "I feel the best of Real Madrid is the squad and the dressing room and if Cristiano is coming here we don't have room for him in the team.

"But, as I said before maybe with the injury to Wesley Sneijder maybe we need someone else."

Salgado is well qualified to judge the needs of Madrid having been at the Bernabeu since 1999.

The Spain veteran claims he cannot see himself leaving anytime soon, but revealed he would consider a move to England if he ever does move on.

"I've been 10 years in Real Madrid," said Salgado. "It would be very difficult to move. But if I move from Real Madrid I'd love to go to the Premier League or Dubai."

Ronaldo is likely to be the highest paid footballer in the world

FIFA has dismissed Manchester United's official complaint over Real Madrid's attempts to sign Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.

FIFA, soccer's governing body, received the official protest a week ago and issued a statement Monday saying it wouldn't take any action against the Spanish club.

"From the documentation received, no breach of contract appears to have occurred yet," FIFA said in a statement.

"Therefore, in accordance with the applicable practice, no kind of formal procedure has been opened by FIFA regarding this matter."

FIFA said it has asked the Spanish soccer federation to remind Real Madrid about "the potential legal consequences of a breach of contract without just cause ... and of a possible inducement to such a breach of contract."

Real Madrid have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

The 23-year-old Ronaldo, currently playing for the Portuguese national team at Euro 2008, recently told a Brazilian media outlet that he wants to play for Real Madrid, but only if the Spanish club breaks the bank to sign him.

Recent Spanish media reports suggested Real Madrid would consider tabling a $158.7-million Cdn offer to United for the services of Ronaldo, who joined the English club from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.

Madrid holds the record for the biggest transfer fee in soccer history, paying Italian team Juventus $71.5 million for the services of Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

Reports also suggest Real would be willing to pay Ronaldo $30 million a season, a contract that would make him the highest-paid soccer player in the world.

Portugal's ominous display came as Scolari assumed pole position in the race to become the new Chelsea manager. While Scolari was busy orchestrating a possible reprise of Portugal's run to the 2004 final, AC Milan responded dismissively to reports suggesting that Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon had flown to Lombardy in an attempt to lure their manager, Carlo Ancelotti, away from the San Siro. "I know where Peter is and he is not in Milan," Umberto Gandini, the Milan operations director, told The Sunday Telegraph. "He is not talking to our coach because we said we would not release him. That I can guarantee 100 per cent. We received a direct and open approach from Chelsea and we told them no."

He also suggested last night that Inter Milan's former coach Roberto Mancini was no longer in the running. "I don't think Roberto Mancini is a target for Chelsea but I may be wrong," said Gandini. "That's only a personal opinion but I talk to people."

All of which appears to leave the door open for Scolari once Euro 2008 is over. His appointment would cause little surprise in Moscow, where sources close to Roman Abramovich have long insisted that the Brazilian is the Chelsea owner's preferred choice.

Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United has taken a new twist after the winger was reported as saying he would like to play for Real Madrid.
Real have been tracking Ronaldo, 23, despite being warned off by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

"I'd like to play for Real Madrid but only if it's true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them," he told respected Brazilian website Terra.

"However, it does not depend on me," said the Portuguese midfielder.

"I'll only talk about this again after the European Championship," added Ronaldo. "Don't ask me any questions because I won't answer."

Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United continues to be the subject of heated debate after Marca published that he has told Real Madrid that he would love to play for them next season.

The topic has clearly riled Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson who said that anyone that asked him about the matter was an idiot after a Spanish reporter sought his reaction in Moscow.

According to the Madrid-based daily sports paper, Ronaldo has told Madrid, "yes, I want to" when asked whether he could be tempted to leave Old Trafford for the Bernabéu.

The report states that authorised club sources leaked the information and that president Ramon Calderon's dream is closer to becoming a reality.

United are clearly unhappy with Madrid and their use of the media to try and unsettle Ronaldo and the latest twist could well see the English giants lodge an official complaint with Uefa and Fifa.

Calderon promised to sign Cesc Fabregas and Kaka in his pre-election manifesto two years ago along with Arjen Robben and the Dutchman is the only player he has been able to land.

With Fabregas and Kaka now out of reach, Los Merengues are continuing to try and persuade Ronaldo to join them, but appear to be heading in the same direction as they did with the other two.

Under the previous president, Florentino Perez, Madrid managed to use the tactic of forcible negotiation to sign Zinedine Zidane and Brazilian striker Ronaldo after long and drawn-out transfer sagas and Calderon is hoping that he could achieve the same outcome.
